• Main question: Is it necessary to upgrade to the Deluxe Package (from the Economy Package) with GoDaddy hosting in order for WordPress to work?

I have done everything imaginable. I have read the Codex several times, I have read through and tried everything in the “Go Daddy Fix” thread, as well as other threads with similar problems. All my information is correct, right down to replacing “localhost” with the provided mySQL host address. I also changed my platform over to Linux, thinking that was the problem.

I ended up just calling GoDaddy, and they said I would have to upgrade to the Deluxe Package since it allows CGI scripting (or something to that effect). But after reading through the forums here, it seems like most people have gotten the Economy package to work.

    What would you recommend?

  • correct – that is no longer the case

in fact, if i remember correctly, it wasn’t ever the case, i was misunderstanding the process back then. funny how we learn so much and forget what we didn’t know!

at the time that i wrote that (if i remember correctly) godaddy had allowed installs on economy prior to their control panel changes – once they implemented that new control panel, i got frustrated trying to find my way around what needed to be done in there (it’s second nature now…) and when i did what i had always done, it didn’t work. however when i walked away from the computer, and came back to it the next day, i had no issues whatsoever.

i believe that it was another friend of mine who had suggested that the permissions for writing tables was disabled on the economy hosting – and i associated that with the new control panel, because i was able to do it before – however i was incorrect.

if you’d kindly direct me to the exact post, i’ll be more than happy to go correct that and post the proper answer… (update: i found it, and am posting this correction there – many apologies for not doing so before!)

(oh… and if you’re really john cusak… will you marry me? 😉 LOL)

Sorry, not him. New site project based on the fact that I resemble far too many JC movie characters (personality-wise).

I discovered the install works, but now I’m getting wanky errors after publishing:

Warning: weblog_ping(/home/content/d/r/t/[database name]/html/wp/wp-includes/class-IXR.php): failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /home/content/d/r/t/[database name]/html/wp/wp-includes/functions.php on line 852

    Warning: weblog_ping(): Failed opening ‘/home/content/d/r/t/[database name]/html/wp/wp-includes/class-IXR.php’ for inclusion (include_path=’.:/usr/local/lib/php’) in /home/content/d/r/t/[database name]/html/wp/wp-includes/functions.php on line 852

Fatal error: Cannot instantiate non-existent class: ixr_client in /home/content/d/r/t/[database name]/html/wp/wp-includes/functions.php on line 855

The posts show up, but I can’t decipher the errors (this is my first experience “under the hood” of PHP).

It looks like a pinging plugin you may have installed maybe?

Try deactivating them one at a time and posting in between and see if one of them is the culprit. More than likely that’s the case – when you find the one, just delete it and see if you can find something else.

Note: too many ping plugins will do this to you as well. WP has built-in ping functionality, so there’s not much need for a plugin, but that hasn’t stopped people from making them.

Are you sure that’s the [database name] and not the directory name?

Hi everyone, this topic was very helpful; now I have a semi-related question. Sorry if this is a little OT, just trying to understand something for my own sake — DesignPastor was moderated and asked not to mention anything “for sale” but resiny was not. I would like to understand the difference in order to avoid offense. Thank you.

kalico – designpastor was giving links to HIS business and his motives did not support the forum rules. trying to garner sales for yourself here on the forums is not allowed. we’re here to support wordpress software – not make a buck. nevermind the attempt to get “link juice” in this way, which is one thing resiny did not do, since he did not use links, only gave the names of well-known and trusted hosting companies (not to his businesses).

we strongly encourage everyone to investigate any links they see as an offer for sale of service. especially when they’re from companies or sites that are not well known.

resiny could’ve linked to the hosting companies he mentioned and still not been penalized, because he had nothing to gain from doing so… was simply offering advice, and all of those companies are well known and trusted.
