GNU GPL - what does it mean? (4 posts)

Stumbling around the internet, I came upon this:

It costs $299 and basically includes various plugins (which from the pictures seem simply to be downloaded from here, rather being written by themselves) and themes and selling them as a package, combined with support.

Doesn't this violate the GNU GPL? Just asking - please feel free to tell me if I'm wrong.

    Many thanks

Good question. I see part of the package includes the Semiologic theme so maybe he could argue that's what you're paying for.

no it doesnt. GNU/GPL software can be sold. Denis is also very well-known around here. The plugins he includes as well as the theme, are all his own work, btw.

this is a VERY googlable topic:

OK thanks - I must admit to only having a bare knowledge of licensing and understood that any software based on the GNU/GPL had to offer the same license, although it could charge if it provided 'assistance' and the like.

I had Googled, but misunderstood. Thanks for explaining.
