@jonwatson87 Not very sure about the issue. May I know what is the sender email id which you are using to send these SMTP emails ?
In case it is something@gmail.com, then it won’t work as Gmail has recently made a policy update on 1st June 2016, where no one can use @gmail.com in the sender. Below is the reference link:
http://www.pepipost.com/index.php/2016/06/02/gmail-dmarc-policy-update/
You can use a different sender domain e.g. something@mydomain.com. If the issue still persists, then you can try installing the below Pepipost plugin:

By sender ID do you mean the “From Email Address” entered in the Gmail SMTP plugin settings?
Are you saying that this address can no longer be something@gmail.com, and that Gmail SMTP can only be used with a Google Apps (or domain) address?
Yes I was referring to the “From Email Address”. Any external plugin, app or website cannot use @gmail.com in “from email address”.
@gmail.com can be used only within the Gmail’s native Mobile App or website only.
If someone violates this new Gmail policy and sends email with FROM as @gmail.com, then there is a high probability of emails either landing in Spam or not getting delivered at all.
Well, bugger… That’s probably why the free account I setup for another client was terminated, for violating their terms of service…
Okay. Thanks for the help! 🙂 I’ll have a look at Pepipost or using a paid Google Apps for Work email account, instead. That seemed to work well for the other client in question.
