 * Hello,
 * I am the administrator of a WordPress site where upon login, our users are authenticated
via a Google Apps domain. Basically, everyone that uses our website also has
their own @ourdomain.com Gmail account and access to a slew of other cloud-based
applications that our organization uses on a daily basis. Furthermore, users
have access to it all via single sign on (SSO). This is accomplished using James
Low’s 3rd Party Authentication plugin. This is great tool and all, but I would
like to take it a step further and have the website check for unread email messages
   upon login.
 * Since our users are already authenticated to their Google Apps account upon logging
in to the website, I figure this should be a pretty simple thing to accomplish.
However, I’ve never written a WordPress plugin before, and I lack the programming
knowledge/expertise to make this happen without having to devote a significant
amount of time (which I simply do not have) and effort into researching and developing
said plugin. Plus, we are a nonprofit organization so investing the money into
hiring a programmer to accomplish this task is a non-option as such money would
be better spent supporting our cause. Therefore, our only option at this point
is to turn to the experience of this community for assistance.
 * If there is anyone out there who can develop a simple plugin to accomplish this
task, it would be greatly appreciated! Some ideas I have for this plugin are
   listed below:
 * – Upon user login, plugin checks currently authenticated Gmail account for the
unread message count and passes that number to a WordPress shortcode for use
   anywhere on the website.
    – Administrator (and possibly users) have an option
to enable/disable a customizable popup notification for unread emails. – A widget
can be displayed on the website to allow users to read (or perhaps even reply
to) email messages without having to leave the website.
 * Only the first of these ideas is an absolute requirement. The rest are simply
features that would be nice to have. Thank you for your time, and I’m looking
forward to seeing these ideas turned into a functional plugin!

 * So, you want someone to create a custom plugin for you absolutely free? Are you
aware of the sheer cost in terms of development & time spent that this will take?

 * Yes, I am aware of that. I am also aware that there are plenty of good samaratins
who do this sort of thing all the time. I am actually one myself as I designed
the entire website (and have made plans to do more) for free. As I mentioned
earlier, this project is for a nonprofit organization (and it’s a youth program
at that) so it’s for a good cause. It will also benefit other nonprofit projects
I’ve made plans to work on in the future and I’m sure that there are many other
folks out there who could also benefit.
 * If you can’t wrap your head around it, that’s fine – you’re entitled to believe
what you will. However, I ask that you consider the collection of thousands (
or is it millions?) of freely developed and distributed WordPress plugins that
   are out there.
 * I am kindly asking that if you do not have anything positive and/or constructive
to add to this discussion, please refrain from posting at all. I’m actually quite
shocked that a forum moderator such as yourself would make such a negative comment.
However, that’s besides the point. The point is that I don’t want a negative
comment such as what you just posted detracting from the goal of my original
   post.
 * With that being said… further negative comments will simply be ignored as I don’t
have the time and/or patience to carry on with discussing anything that is not
on par with turning this idea into a reality. Thanks, and I hope that you have
   a wonderful day! 🙂

 * Having created over 20 free themes and co-developed a free ecommerce plugin with
over half a million downloads, I am all too aware of what is available for free
from the wider WP community. But that’s _very_ different from creating a bespoke
plugin for one site which could involve hundreds of pounds of development time.
 * The best place to seek someone who is willing to take this on is still [http://jobs.wordpress.net/](http://jobs.wordpress.net/)

 * I know that I said earlier that I would ignore future negative comments, but
I’m not about to allow such a shortsighted line of thought devalue the usefulness
   of my proposed plugin.
 * Do you honestly believe that there is nobody else out there who could use a plugin
that interacts with Gmail accounts in the way I have described in my OP? If such
a plugin existed, I’m sure it would be downloaded just as much, if not even more
than your mentioned ecommerce plugin. Therefore, your point that this is a “bespoke”
   plugin is null and void.
 * Good day!
