I’m using a Gmail account, not G Suite / Google Workspace. I’m concerned about security because I am only allowed to select User Type: External instead of the Internal option for G Suite / Google Wordspace which is referenced on the documentation on https://wpmailsmtp.com/docs/how-to-set-up-the-gmail-mailer-in-wp-mail-smtp/ under “Configuring Your Consent Screen Settings”.

It seems to me there aren’t specific instructions for using only Gmail and the External setting, so I was unsure about things.

If I select the External setting (since I am only using Gmail), is this correct and will my app be secure?

I was able to get it working after verifying something, but was still concerned if I had done it correctly. I wanted to have my client set this up so that I didn’t need to access their Gmail account, but it was a difficult process for me to go through.

    Thank you.

  • Hi @lkkuhn,

Thanks for reaching out. User Type “Internal” is available for the organizational (Gsuite) accounts only to restrict access to internal members of the organization. Gmail users should use External settings. If you have got it working, you should be all set.

    I hope this helps!
