Support » Networking WordPress » Global, single-style menu for multisite WordPress installation

  • Hello,

I want to implement a global sidebar menu that would appear in the same location with the same style in any site of my multisite WordPress installation. Different sub-sites use different themes, so I need to somehow inject that menu in every site disregarding the theme. Website Solid Works is a very good example of what I’m trying to achieve – it’s global menu, found on the top left corner, not only shows the sub-sites, but also includes the menu items from these sub-sites.

I am now trying to implement Network Wide Menus plugin, but it is very limited in it’s configuration, has no styling, and cannot import menu items from the sub-sites.

Is there a better WordPress plugin that I could use? Or perhaps there is another way to solve this?

  • A multisite uses one set of WordPress files, but each site has its own database.
So, where would you suggest storing the menu that is dynamic and shown the same way on every subsite?

Edit: I suppose you could build the menu in the main site, and show it using an iframe on each subsite.

That’s the idea. Menu would stored on the main site, and the sub sites would pull the menu from the main site. The plugin I mentioned does exactly that, but it’s not very well implemented.
