Hi Support, I would like some clarity on the following:

It looks like you can only create a Performance Max campaign in Google Listings & Ads dashboard. My understanding is by doing this it will automatically create a Conversion Action within Google Ads. I prefer Standard Shopping campaigns so cannot create my campaign in Google Listings & Ads.

So if I create a Standard Shopping campaign directly within Google Ads will Google Listings & Ads still automatically create a Conversion Action?

In a previous campaign I created months ago on a different Google Ads account(for a different client) I see: [7b54] Google Listings and Ads purchase action in Conversion Goals and I’m pretty sure I never created a campaign directly within the GLA dashboard in wordpress/woocommerce.

    Hi there @staalburger,

This is a good question! I am not entirely sure myself if the syncing of the Standard Shopping campaign back to the Google Listings & Ads dashboard would trigger the creation of the standard set of conversion actions or not.

I assume you would not want those actions created, is that correct?

I have reached out directly to our development team on this question and will do more research on the outcomes here. I’ll update this thread with my findings.

    Hi again @staalburger ,

Our dev team has confirmed that in this case, where you are creating a Standard Shopping campaign and it syncs to the GLA plugin (for viewing only; it cannot be edited from the dashboard side), then yes, they do expect the matching conversion actions that the plugin creates for each campaign to be created. As the campaign is pulled into the plugin, it will fire the usual campaign creation process which includes creating those conversion actions.

Is this the answer you were hoping for, or were you hoping those actions would not be created?

If you were hoping they would not be created, can you give us a little more information on why you prefer to use the Standard Shopping campaigns instead of the Performance Max campaigns? With the Standard campaign, especially with no conversion tracking, what is your end goal?

Hi @lynnjat7 thanks for the feedback. Yes I want those conversion actions to be created within Google Ads. Ok great so I assume I’ll just have to wait a bit for it to eventually show within Google Ads while my campaign is running?
As for choosing Standard Shopping campaigns, at this stage Pmax campaigns are not viable for my client.

    Hi there @staalburger,

Glad to hear that’s what you were hoping for!

I would say to go ahead and set this up, do the sync to the plugin, and then give it a few days to track the conversions. However, if you are still not seeing any conversion events created on the Google side and/or they don’t seem to be tracking, please do let us know.

This is an unusual setup as most of our GLA customers are using Pmax campaigns these days, so this scenario with Standard campaigns doesn’t get much use. So if anything does not work as expected, we’d be happy to take a look.

I’m marking this topic as “resolved” due to recent inactivity. If more assistance is needed, feel free to post back here or open a new topic.
