No, that is not possible with this plugin, at least not with the free version. It can’t be used to give someone access to a menu that they otherwise wouldn’t be able to see, and it support per-user permissions – it’s all based on capabilities and roles.
Thanks for the reply. Okay, in this case then can the person I give access to be blocked from opening certain parts of the back end of the site? They will see the dashboard as I do but not be able to open the areas of the dashboard I don’t want them to.
That might be possible. It depends on what role(s) you give to that user. For example, if they are an Editor, you can prevent them from opening certain admin pages by changing the “extra capability” setting for those pages/menus to “manage_options” or another capability that the “Editor” role doesn’t have.
Okay that makes sense. Thanks. Will the free plugin be sufficient for this task?
Sure. Everything that I said above applies to the free version.
Hi, Just one more question if you don’t mind please. I have the plugin all set up (love it!) but see that the user I set up can still see and access the activity on my sites main dashboard page. When I attempt to remove the “read” option in the settings of that page it doesn’t allow me to remove it. Is there another way I can block the user (who is set up as a Shop Manager) from seeing or being able to edit anything through the links on the dashboard page? For e.g. I logged in as them and was able to click on the Posts under the ‘Activity’ tab and save my changes. Thanks.
There are at least two ways you could approach that: either change the user’s permissions so that the links on the Dashboard no longer work, or hide the Dashboard entirely. You may need other plugins for this.
For example, to completely prevent someone from editing posts, you will need to remove the edit_posts
capability (and maybe some other *_posts
capabilities) from their role. It’s not possible to do that with AME, but something like User Role Editor would work.
Alternatively, you could hide the “Dashboard -> Home” menu with AME to prevent the user from accessing the Dashboard. If you do that, you will have to redirect them to a different page after they log in. You can do that with Peter’s Login Redirect.
Thanks for all of the advice! Which permission would prevent them from having access to edit post’s on the Dashboard area? Right now I have them set up as a Shop Manager. Thanks again.

Here’s a list of capabilities related to posts:
- edit_posts
- edit_private_posts
- edit_published_posts
- edit_others_posts
- publish_posts
- delete_posts
- delete_others_posts
- delete_private_posts
- delete_published_posts
- read_private_posts
To prevent someone from changing posts in any way, you would need to remove all of the above permissions from their role.
Note: If it turns out that the “Shop Manager” role didn’t have any of these capabilities to begin with but the user still has the ability to edit posts, it might be that the user has multiple roles.
