Give us back our breaks!

  • I was suprised to discover today that WP doesn’t recognize either multiple line breaks, or even hand-entering <br />

    This is just silly. One should have 100% absolute control over the formatting of posts, which I was used to with MT.

    So– please in the next release let posts recognize multiple carriage returns AND <br /> (and whatever other formatting codes that might be supressed).

    Thanks.

  • Uh, what plugins do you have active?

    Break tags work fine for me. Check your plugins, as Kafka said, and… I can’t think of anything else. Hm.

    Ok- egg on my face, I turned on Markdown, I can do it now.

    STILL, It requires manual break tags, you can’t just hit return 3 times and get 3 breaks.

    You can disable wp-autop.

    MtDewVirus – that plugin in almost what I am after to solve a problem I have. How would I modify it to work only on a single category? (I tried but could only get errors).

    Hmm…I have no idea if this will work, but you could try this:
    Open the plugin and change the code to this…

    if (in_category(#)) {
    remove_filter('the_content', 'wpautop');
    remove_filter('the_excerpt', 'wpautop');
    }

    Change the # to the category ID.

    Worth a try I guess.

    Thats what I can up with after I posted. It throws up the following errors above the admin panel:

    Warning: Invalid argument supplied for foreach() in /home/thewayt/public_html/blog/wp-includes/template-functions-category.php on line 400

    (and line 404), and:

    Warning: Cannot modify header information – headers already sent by (output started at /home/thewayt/public_html/blog/wp-includes/template-functions-category.php:400) in /home/thewayt/public_html/blog/wp-admin/admin.php on line 6

    (and lines 7, 8 and 9).

    That’s kind of what I figured. :-/

    I’m having the same problems with it not recognising multiple line breaks or manual ones, and I don’t have any plugins enabled. Does anyone know how can I fix this?

    Add the plugin and enable it. That way you’ll take it out of WP’s hands and you can set up your own paragraphs and line breaks how you want them in your post.
