    http://www.barbed-wire-justice.com/erroneous-irs-levy-for-1984/

Hours of tying to get the asterisk in the top line to be RED, I'm finally sure I need help.

I can get the color related box, and I can get it to show red as current, but it doesn't turn the text (asterisk) red no matter what I do.

HOW can I get the asterisk to be red????

Any suggestions? I've read the online HELP. No help, in terms of it working.

Maybe my copy of GIMP is corrupted... sort of like American courts in all too many instances.

I'll try uninstalling and installing a new.

Thanks Andrew. I signed up there.

I asked here because I have a brain injury and often can't grasp answers, even though they are excellent.

I've been fortunate to find CrouchingBruin who writes in a way that I can follow. I'd hoped he might put it into words... I thought maybe I could get it then.

    Hi, Karen:

So when you activated the Text tool and clicked on the image to add some text, there should have been a little dialog box floating over the image, and you can set the color of the text by clicking the button on the lower right. Is that what you did? That should have allowed you to enter text in a different color. See this image.

Yes, I'm pretty sure that's what I did... at least 20 times. The color in the little box changes, but the text doesn't.

Only, when I gave up, closed the program, forgot about it but then returned, It worked. Only the page that I'd opened wasn't the one I needed the red asterisk on.

On the correct page... it would not work.

I must be doing something wrong, but I can't figure out what.

Weird, I wrote a reply, CrouchingBruin, but after posting... it wasn't there. So, I must have done even that wrong. Sigh.

Yes. I get that button. it's red. The text however doesn't change to red. The font, the size of the font, all that changes when I change the properties but no red.

Yesterday I became exhausted and gave up. I closed the program and forgot about it. But later I still wanted the red asterisks, so I opened it. Low and behold the red asterisks worked, but I hadn't opened the page I wanted them on... On that page... the red once again would not work.

I've not been able to get color to work again.

Hi CrouchingBruin ~~ Okay do you think it's related to how GIMP saves tools that you've used. If I used the Contrast tool in the color thing, then GIMP brings it up over and over again.

So, you didn't ever use my IRS image before. When you went to use the text editing tool there weren't any saved things in it. So, you got red. Whereas, when I've previously used xxxx over my social security number, in black, GIMP thinks I still want to use black... Could that be it?

I know I've cleared the text preferences a few times. It could be after one of those clearings that red worked.

Also, if I use an image previously saved in GIMP, then maybe I can's change the text color if it is already established???

Could you write the steps you used to get the red. I could open a previously un changed image of the document from my file and then follow the steps.

See, the image is too large to put into SiteBuilder and change, the way I do with many images...

Happiness! I've now got red asterisks, based on figuring you started with a new image.

But... how to now switch to black for the xxx over the social security number...

Okay, I don't know why it is that when you tell me something, and then I do it, it works.

I now have xxxx in black, and asterisks in red.

I don't know how you do it, but I'd sure like that kind of miraculous ability to help. :-)

As an aside the help on the GIMP forum was far more techy and really nothing to do with why it wasn't working.

Oh wait, one more question... Is there a way to put a link on top of an image????

    Bother!!!

I think I'm doing the exact same things... but I can't get red asterisks on the final document for that page...

    Sigh

    This is so frustrating.

I've closed GIMP repeatedly. I set the text color to red. I open a new copy of the image. The box is red, I type and asterisk... and it's black.

    Sigh.

I reopen GIMP before I set the text color to red, obviously.

I wonder if I actually have to shut off my computer between tries...

So, it apparently takes all those things. A computer restart so GIMP starts fresh. Then selection the color before opening the text tool... etc. Whew.

Wow, that's very cumbersome behavior for GIMP. I don't seem to have that issue, I can change font colors fairly easily. Maybe you have a memory problem with your computer where you have to clear it by rebooting? Do you have a lot of applications open at the same time?

    Hi, :-)
I have a new computer with a solid state hard drive. About half my memory is empty. But, it does come with a lot less memory than a regular hard drive.

The manual sure makes it seem as if changing color is easier than I've found it.

It could be that this computer saves things more... The problem seems to be that once I use some tool or function in GIMP then it keeps offering it to me...

I sure wish I could think of the similar but different question that came up...

OH, I know. I just noticed that I've had visits to my Home Page Archives... What's that? and how are people accessing it? I mean, it's not in my menu, at least not that I'm aware of...
