GIMP: I need help in copying saved images to GIMP

I was on this forum back in July and I received good advice at this forum about the free photo editing software, GIMP. I have just begun to play around with the GIMP. I like it. The learning curve is steep, this being my first imaging program. I was able to copy and paste images off the web, but I am having a hard time with the ones that I had copied and pasted onto m/s word. When I copy the pictures from m/s word and paste them onto the GIMP, the pictures are coming out looking faded.
