  • Hello there!

The issue with Ghostery is that it isn’t technically an ad blocker. When ads do get blocked, it is a nice byproduct of its primary purpose, which is to block tools that track your online activity.

This plugin has had intermittent success in the past at detecting Ghostery. It appears as if, right now, it’s not doing so.

The methods I use for detecting ad blockers aren’t going to reliably see Ghostery as an ad blocker. I have a few ideas on how to expand detection, and I will look into whether or not they’ll work on Ghostery. However, it will probably take me some time to implement.

I’ll let you know how it goes.

Many thanks for your quick reply. I know that following plugin are able to detect Ghostery:
    https://wordpress.org/plugins/blocked-ads-notifier-lite/

    Possible it helps?

After a very long time, I have finally gotten this to work.

Blocked Ads Notifier Lite used a different mechanism to do its job, so there was no simple way to add this functionality.

However, in version 3.0.0 and above, Ad Blocking Detector can now detect Ghostery if you provide it a little information.

Much like with Blocked Ads Notifier Lite, you must specify a wrapper around your advertisement if you want to detect Ghostery, and it will only work if their is an advertisement on the page that Ghostery blocks. Without this wrapper, or without that advertisement, Ad Blocking Detector will work as before.

You’ll tell Ad Blocking Detector about this wrapper in the settings for each shortcode. Instructions and examples for how to find this wrapper are available on the plugin’s new website: http://adblockingdetector.johnmorris.me/detection-improvement-user-defined-wrapper-css-selectors/

I just released version 3.0.0, so it may take some time to show the update in your dashboard.

Sorry it took so long. Making this work required rewriting and reworking vast portions of this plugin, so I lumped it in with dozens of other changes and fixes.
