Support » Localhost Installs » Getting Started Using MAMP

  • Hello there!

I am completely new to this whole thing, and am trying to start using wordpress locally using MAMP. I think I’ve done everything correctly and have googled endlessly trying to figure out the problem, but when I got to actually install wordpress by going to localhost/wordpress I receive what I’ve found out is the dreaded ‘error establishing database connection’.

I’ve attempted numerous things, including changing from localhost to my ip address, and still no go. Any help would be much appreciated.

  • did you make sure mysql is working

did you add your database in mysqladministrator or with another tool?

are you sure the database name user pass are correct in wp-config.php

did you apply all permissions to the database user to allow that account to change information in the mysql database?

if you are not sure about any of the above

you need to make a database manually before your php files can connect to it.. and you need to apply enough rights so the database user account used by wordpress can modify the database to store data.
