  • Is there a way to deactivate RSS in a blog? Do you turn it off in the code of WordPress, or just the theme?

Someone said there was a plug-in that could do this, but will it work on the latest version of WordPress?

  • Why would you want to do that? It doesn’t make sense why anyone would want to turn RSS off? It streams for automatic update notifications for those who subscribes to it.

I want the blog to be private and only to people I permit to look at it. Is there a way to keep the RSS off? I’m kind of new to WordPress, so I’m wondering if there is a feature to keep the blog private that I’m overlooking.

I just don’t want the RSS feed giving out the blog content.

I had seen that thread before. Looks like a workable solution. It was posted over 11 months ago, so I was wondering if there were any more recent tips on disabling RSS. Looks like that is still the best option.

    Thanks for your help.

    Looking forward to new way

I’m also interested in doing this but even more so I’d like to disable the default RSS feeds and generate my own with a template of my choosing.

To kill off RSS, I think you’d want to remove the feed link in your header so that search engines don’t auto-discover the feed:

    <link rel="alternate" type="application/rss+xml" title="<?php bloginfo('name'); ?> RSS Feed" href="<?php bloginfo('rss2_url'); ?>" />

And remove any other feed links and gifs in your theme in the sidebar, footer, etc.

And delete all the feed files in your theme, wp-includes, and in root:
