Getting posts from the current category

It seems simple but I just can’t get it to work. I want it to dynamically get the category that has been selected, then list the 10 most recent posts from that category. I want the title, thumbnail and excerpt. What would be the best way to do this? Thanks in advance for anyone that can be of any help.
