    Hello 🙂

I am trying to translate a Theme to the Hebrew languege.

I am having a trouble when changing the manues – instead of getting hebrew – I am getting jibrish (some chinese skribles instead of hebrew fonts).

Any leads on how to fix that ?!

    10x in advance,
    Tal.

  • I checked out WordPress in Your Language, in the Codex. Apparently, there’s a Hebrew translation of WordPress already done. It’s here. I couldn’t tell you if that’s true, since the page is in Hebrew, but I could make out that the title is “WordPress in Hebrew”. I also see the numbers 2.0.2 in English, which leads me to believe that it’s the latest version.

There’s a link to the same page (Ran Yaniv Hartstein blog) for the Kubrick theme in Hebrew.

Sounds like you might save some work if you started with a Hebrew version of WordPress with a Hebrew theme.

talgalili: I’d guess you didn’t change the file encoding? Although WordPress by default uses UTF-8, some theme authors don’t do that, and save their theme files in, say, ISO-8859-1 (latin1) encoding.

If that’s the case, you’ll need to remember to save the translated files in UTF-8 (without BOM, remember), otherwise your non-latin characters will come out funny.

I usually make sure all files in all the themes I localize get converted to UTF-8.
