• Hi,

When I try to update theme file I get following error: “Unable to communicate back with site to check for fatal errors, so the PHP change was reverted. You will need to upload your PHP file change by some other means, such as by using SFTP.”

It was not happening earlier. I contacted my host he said it is WordPress related problem.

Let me know how to fix this?

Please install the health check plugin and report back its findings: https://wordpress.org/plugins/health-check/

The troubleshooting page will let you see if a plugin is responsible for the loopback problem.

Hmmm… loopback is successful. Can you edit a non-active theme?

    Thread Starter Mandar Apte

    (@mandarapte)

Yes, I am able to successfully edit non active themes.

But If I edit active theme file WordPress deletes all of it’s code & make it zero kb file.

this may happen theoretically on some host (and filesystem with mount flags) combination with opcode cache.
Please dont edit active theme files )

    Hello @mandarapte

Please have look at the possible causes and solution for the fatal error. I have already stated at https://wordpress.org/support/topic/cant-change-wordpress-php-file-showing-fatal-error/#post-10006121

    Thank You

Side note to @mandarapte (and yes, I am using the notification system).

Don’t ping users here just to bump your topic. I’ve removed your reply, that is considered abusive behavior.

People, including moderators, volunteer here for free. When you ping that way you are spamming them. Don’t do that. It really is rude.

Edit: This goes for everyone. I really may create a trac ticket to disable that notification for users. It is abused too much.
