For me it was a question of just updating the login.php file

I’m now in that boat. I’m getting the same error message:
Fatal error: Cannot redeclare check_password_reset_key() (previously declared in /home/u544409791/public_html/wp-login.php:281) in /home/u544409791/public_html/wp-includes/user.php on line 1644

I have renamed my plugins folder plugins-old and have replaced the files wp-login.php and the include user.php with those from the “latest” zip file offered in an earlier forum post.

I get the same error message.

I just inherited the website. It is running 3.7.1.

    Any other suggestions?
