Support » Plugin: Online Backup for WordPress » Getting an error when backing up

  • Hi, I’m getting this error. I recently moved hosts – though everything was moved along with the site – I think.

    Here’s the error:

    Hi LKR,

Your database looks to be very very big.
I think the backup is getting too big for the server /tmp partition and then failing, because the database backup is so big (243MB so far in that error)

What is the progress message just before it fails? Which table is it backing up and how many rows are in it (if lots of rows, it should say progress as it backs it up). Are there some tables you could exclude that would reduce it down?

I wonder if there are some cache tables or otherwise from some cache plugins you could possibly exclude.

    Regards,

    Jason

    Thanks for the reply!

    The error before that is:

Table ‘wp_translations’ has no PRIMARY or UNIQUE key! Backup of this table may be inconsistent; some rows could get missed. See FAQ for more information.

    then

Table ‘wp_translations_log’ has no PRIMARY or UNIQUE key! Backup of this table may be inconsistent; some rows could get missed. See FAQ for more information.

I did use to have a translations plugin I think…did the database not erase? Is that the issue? Thanks.

    Hi LKR,

I meant the message on the progress bar before it then fails. It will say which table it is backing up at that time and how many rows etc.

Or, you can try use this version instead:
    https://wordpress.backup-technology.com/wponlinebackup-577-tracing.zip
It will generate a trace.log file. You can find a link to it on the Help & Support tab at the bottom – right-click that link and Save Target As… / Save Linked File As…
Then compress the file (right-click Compress or right-click SendTo->CompressedZIP)
And email it to support “at” backup-technology.co.uk and put in the email a link to this forum post so we know who it’s from.

    Thanks,

    Jason

Thanks Jason! I’ve sent the log to the email address provided.

    Ross.

    Hi LKR,

Can you try this one now:
    https://wordpress.backup-technology.com/wponlinebackup-584-tracing.zip

I’ve improved memory usage during the database backup so it will run much quicker for you and fail quicker. It won’t fix the problem though, but it will tell us which table is giving the problem and an idea of how big it is. If you can email trace.log again that will be great.

Once we exclude the problematic table it should work fine then.

    Regards,

    Jason

    Thanks Jason! Sent another email.

    Hi Ross,

On General settings you’ll need to exclude wp_translations and wp_translations_log database tables, they are the big ones making everything massive.

I also notice your server is acting strange and the backup gets killed randomly. Can you let me know your host so I can see what config they might be doing? Or is it your own server? You can email me if you don’t want to post it here. Knowing how they set up their PHP will help me improve the backup on their servers so its quicker and doesn’t stall randomly.

    Thanks,

    Jason

Thanks, I’m still getting an error, though. This time upon completion, it seems:

A filesystem operation failed while processing ‘Filesystem/public_html/switch2dvd.co.uk/wp-content/plugins/wordpress-move/backup/Backup-13637253251.zip’ (Size unknown) for backup.

    Also, I’m with DownTownHost. Thanks.

    Hi LKR,

    Try excluding
    wp-content/plugins/wordpress-move/backup

Looks like we’re ending up backing up a backup file!

    Jason.

Is that done by putting wp-content/plugins/wordpress-move/backup in the excludes box in the settings? It didn’t do the trick, if so.

    My bad LKR,

    The path would be:
    switch2dvd.co.uk/wp-content/plugins/wordpress-move/backup

It’s sitting within a subsite with the looks of it.
Yes, it would be done by placing it in the excludes box in the settings.

    Jason.

Thanks Jason, but still getting the error.

Did you use the new exclude?

Is it failing on the same file or different file this time? Just want to check that exclude actually works.

Hi, yes, I used the new exclude. I’m now getting this error: The backup cannot proceed any further due to an unknown problem. Please visit the Help & Support section for information on where to find help.

    Thanks for your help!
