Support » Fixing WordPress » Getting actual permalink URL in case a plugin changes them

  • There are plugins changing permalinks, such as ‘Custom permalinks’, allowing changes on per-post basis.

However, there’s major drawback: the_permalink()/get_permalink() do not take into account the changed value and return the one generated by WP settings.

Is there a way to make the_permalink()/get_permalink() return actual permalink value? Otherwise, WP-generated values are inserted and then plugin makes redirection to a new URL when “old” permalink is opened in browser. Which is, politely saying, inconvenient.

That affects all the code using the Loop (such as category listings), Google sitemaps etc. Workaround is to create custom function checking for possible existence of altered permalink and returning substitute value – i.e., to change existing code using the mentioned functions.
