Getting a weird error message – help.

I can install WP fine but then when I go to install the theme it gives me this message:

Unable to create directory /home/kitty/public_html/wp-content/uploads/2010/10. Is its parent directory writable by the server?

I tried uploading the theme – got that message, then I tried to just select a random one and it gives me this error:

Downloading install package from http://wordpress.org/extend/themes/download/wp-soul.1.1.1.zip…

Download failed. Could not create Temporary file.

Please help, I need to get my site up. Thanks in advance!
