Rob: First of all, kudos with this plugin. Very cool and it works well!

Now my minor issue: When I don’t have any upcoming events set up, my events page gives a 404 error. I have seen at least one other person reporting this one a couple of years ago. In there, you suggested refreshing the permalink settings. I did this, but it didn’t help. Luckily this problem disappears as soon as I enter an upcoming event, so there is a solution, but I thought this is something you might want to address down the road.

    Thanks johnelstx for reporting that.

Just so you know, in WordPres when you have an empty archive page, such as a post category with no posts, it generates a 404. It generates this 404 because that is what Google recommends you do when you have a page with no content. Our plugin adheres to that WP standard. It sounds like what you were facing is probably just the nature of WordPress, but adding that event should and evidently did fix it. Hope that makes sense.

    Cheers!

Thanks for the reply, Brook. What you say, makes sense. You’re simply adhering to a recommended standard. It would be nice if the plugin could instead just post a message that says, “No upcoming events scheduled”, or display some user-defined message. That would be less confusing for site visitors when there are no scheduled events. As things are now, it incorrectly looks like the events system is broken or missing. Just a suggestion… 🙂

That’s a good idea, thanks. And just so you know we do have a tutorial that helps you change out wording. It’s probably beginner-intermediate in PHP though, so totally understandable if you dont’ want to mess with it. Not everyone wants to learn PHP!

    Cheers!
