get_sidebar pain

Hi,

The <?php get_sidebar(1); ?> code in the template I’m using was put at the end of the header.php file.

I’m trying to create a new page template that doesn’t call the sidebar (to give me more room on the page). I’ve spent hours trying to find the right piece of code to insert into my existing page.php code (which I want to cut and paste into the new template) that counters the default call.

Can anyone help?! I’m sure this is just my inexperience showing but I literally can’t find anything online that can help!
