Okay guys and gals, I’m really stuck here.

A couple of weeks ago my hosted main domain had a couple of hiccups and my hosting service recovered by restoring the entire domain and subdomains with a backup from their server. My blog is a subdomain off the main domain.

I just discovered that a visitor going to my site will see the main page as one normally would, with little previews of a number of posts. But when a post is clicked to view the entire post, this appears:

    Not Found

The requested URL /musical-puns-2/ was not found on this server.

Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.

When I am using the admin dashboard and click Posts > All Posts then click the title or the “Edit” link, the following gets displayed:

    Failed to load content css:http://scruffydog.org/wp-content/tinymce-custom-style/editor-style.css</blockquote>

I’ve searched all my own backup files and cannot find the specified folder and file.

Before this domain failure, I had a daily backup of my WP blog but for the life of me, I can’t find where the backups are stored, either locally or on my hosted server. Then I discover that backing up requires a plugin and I can’t find a plugin that will do backups in my dashboard. Searching WP plugs reveals a ton of backup plugs and I have no idea which one i previously used.

In the end, if there doesn’t seem to be a solution to this, I can rebuild from scratch as all my posts are listed in my dashboard and I can retrieve their contents and go from there. It would just be a royal PITA so I’m hoping that someone here can guide me out of this.

    Thank you for any help!

  • Hi @todindiana,

If you use a commercial theme or plugin and need support, please go to their official support channel. In order to be good stewards of the WordPress community, and encourage innovation and progress, we feel it’s important to direct people to those official locations.

Forum volunteers are also not given access to commercial products, so they would not know why your commercial theme or plugin is not working properly. This is one other reason why volunteers forward you to the commercial product’s vendors. The vendors are responsible for supporting their commercial product.

    @HVWD:

Thanks for your nice reply. It’s unfortunate that so much talent on this forum are reluctant to even provide a clue regarding my request.

I tried contacting Elegant Themes right after I read your response but after more than two days’ wait with no response, I contacted the support desk of my account host. The tech who answered my call took time to check things out and came back to me within ten minutes and asked me to check things. Everything was working fine, thanks to his willingness to look under the hood. This is someone who is not dedicated to resolving WP-specific issues and has to deal with all aspects of server reliability.

It’s also interesting that the second part of my question regarding the error that site visitors see was a WP problem in that this engineer instructed me to simply reset my WP permalink settings.

I’m sure that the volunteers who take the time to read and respond provide a valuable service to the WP community, and for that I am extremely grateful.

    All the best.
