Support » Fixing WordPress » Get 550 Server Error When Trying To Delete Trash

  • I can see that I have 3 items in my trash in replies. When I click on “Trash:3” I am taken to a 500 Server Error.

Clearly this was spam and I am trying to see the replies to get a better idea of what is being caught. I would also like to delete these from the trash.

Does anyone know another way to view the Trash items or why I am unable to view them now?
    Thank you, Matoca

  • Try checking your site’s error logs for a more specific error message. Error 500 is too generic to be of any use. Your hosts should be able to help you accessing your site’s error logs.

I recently got a server error code like this and I did go into the error logs. I was unable to figure out the problem on my own so I did a chat with the host.

He spent extensive time in the dashboard trying things and told me that they had removed PHP 5.3 from the server recently and that WP bbPress seemed to have issues with 5.4. He said it was throwing the same error with 5.2 and 5.4.

I am running 5.4 now but I am frustrated that they claim that many WP plugins still need 5.3. I addressed this on the bbPress forum and was told that the host was wrong, bbPress is compatible with 5.4.

So this may have something to do with WP, bbPress and the PHP version running on the server. I have no choice but to run 5.4 at this point.

That is why I am posting here, is there a workaround to get into trash?

What specific error are you seeing within your error logs?

    Esmi,
I started my own topic to ask for help with this problem. I am confused what you mean by post my own topic? Do you want me to start a second topic with the same information?

Jeff the error is pretty generic, but Bluehost claims it is related to a requirement for PHP 5.3. Since that has been removed from the server, according to Bluehost, I can’t fix it.

    500 Server Error
A misconfiguration on the server caused a hiccup. Check the server logs, fix the problem, then try again.
