Support » Plugin: GeoIP Detection » Geo targeted Ads based on Location IP

  • What about say… you want to show ads which would have a location assigned to them. That location could have an IP or even a city of the business which I set as a Custom Post type field. And you want to show that business’s ads but only if they are within a radius of the IP address of the website visitor.

If I was on a computer in Bradenton I want to see ads are within 40 miles of my IP. Can the code compare the assigned IP of the Business which has the ad and the user on the website’s IP. And use this info to serve target geolocated ads???

Ultimately it’s simple. Show adds within a 40 miles radius of IP address … (user’s IP)

I am intermediate at PHP. I can do most things including a pretty complex template. This is all new to me and I’m wondering if this is a task I can manage with the plugin.

In theory, this would work. You need to get the latitude/longitude of the business, and then compare it to the lat/lon of the current ip. The is a formula that lets you compute the distance.

However, 40miles probably too precise for geo-location via the IP adress – maybe reasonably exact with the commercial data from Maxmind.
