Support » Plugin: Genesis eNews Extended » Genesis Enews Extended Captcha

  • I have just been speaking with somebody from ConvertKit since I have quite a few “Unconfirmed Subscribers”. My forms are through the Genesis eNews Widget and when he tested them out he said that it doesn’t look like there is any captcha built in and that it looks like a bunch of robots are signing up. He tested by signing up to the same form 7 times in a row through an incognito window. He told me to contact Genesis and ask them What the heckšŸ¤£

    Will this be addressed? The Genesis eNews Widget is integrated into my theme so I would like to keep them but this is annoying.

  • this comes up every now and then. i am doing double opt in right now to cut down on the spam. this kills the rate of people joining my list through this method but also kills the spam and prevents the email sender service from shutting us down.

    really wish a solution could be built here. its 2019 and it needs either recaptcha or akismet protection.

    anyone know of a custom solution? have to get one built by a coder?

    Genesis eNews is only a mechanism to send that data to your newsletter subscription service. It cannot handle things like bots and spam. You would need to do like @joelaw02hi5 does which is to force the double opt-in on the newsletter settings if ConvertKit has that option. I know MailChimp does. The simplest way to do that would be to use your respective newsletter embed codes on your websites instead of Genesis eNews and then add your own custom styling.

    The Mailchimp form code has something like this:

    <!-- real people should not fill this in and expect good things - do not remove this or risk form bot signups-->
    <div style="position: absolute; left: -5000px;" aria-hidden="true">
         <input type="text" name="b_677350726c855038144aabecd_6ab3c1617f" tabindex="-1" value="">

    maybe this is missing in this plugin since I’m getting tons of weird subscriptions all the time?!

    I’d much prefer being able to code in recaptcha v3 which doesn’t even need to present the “I’m not a Robot” box.

    Just not sure if this is supported or possible. I reached out to the creator of the widget and made an offer$$ but no reply…
