    Hi!

Has anyone (perhaps the Mailpoet creator or a user) found a good way to gather consent (re-opt-in) from current subscribers? It is needed for GDPR and I know I am not the only one that needs it. And time is running out…

    Cheers,
    Jesper

  • I wish there was a good way to handle this in Mailpoet. This is what has been suggested to me:

Add checkboxes for consent and consent text to a form for a new newsletter, and then send people in your old newsletter an email asking them to sign up again using the new form.

Not at all an ideal solution. Would be better to be able to send out a consent email to the existing list and be able to segment on the new checkbox.

You can read all of Mailpoets GDPR info here: https://beta.docs.mailpoet.com/search?query=gdpr

    Thanks!

I guess that is what I’ll be doing then. Like you said, not ideal. I would also like the option to save the consent (the sentence being used in the form).

I must admit I am re-evaluating some of the consent requests planned based on this:

INAL, so don’t take my word for it. And I don’t know how much to trust this lawyer either, but other information elsewhere has stated the same she does about consent. That is, its not necessarily a need to get new consent, depending on your circumstances.

That’s food for thought but my clients wants to be on the sure side, so I’ll go with consent.

That can’t be true… instead of just sending out one mail with an individual link to confirm everyone needs to re-subscribe? 🙁

The Mailpoet GDPR documentation has been updated saying you don’t need consent from ppl that have subscribed on their own. Even though this may be true you still need to collect consent from ppl who have not subscribed on their own…

Regarding jarledb’s suggestion on how to collect consent: I have run into a problem. I have set everything up like it is suggested. However when I test it no confirmation emails (double opt-in) are sent. It looks like no confirmation email is sent when the email address is already on another list, which is the case here.

    Does anyone have any suggestions?

Hello all! Sorry for jumping in late.

    >It looks like no confirmation email is sent when the email address is already on another list, which is the case here.

That’s correct, MailPoet does not send email confirmation if someone is already on another list. This is by design and it won’t change since “confirmed” is a global status. In other words, the subscribers knows who you are and added himself to a new list which is consensual.

If you have more questions, don’t hesitate.
