GD library

  • I thought I installed the gd library properly on my hosting server in order to get next generation plugin to work…but I continue to get a message “no gd support” I went to the area wp sends you, php manual to get gd information but that wasn’t much help. WHERE DO I INSTALL IT so that it gets recognized?

I am running my test site on an unix apache based server and using cpanel. When I finish with site I will be transfering it to a windows based server through Go Daddy.

I don’t have much experience with wordpress but I’m catching on. This GD Library is a frustrating hurdle for me.

Thanks ahead for any help on this.

  • Can’t address the gd library but I will tell you to get a Linux plan at Godaddy as their Windows plan will not support WordPress.

That’s what I was afraid of. Thanks for confirming that you saved me much grief.

You can install GD anywhere you want (provided that Apache has access rights to that location), but you need to tell PHP where it is by running configure --with-gd[=DIR] where DIR is the location of GD. For more information, refer to PHP Manual.

And MichaelH is right; GoDaddy’s Windows plan doesn’t have PHP (it’s either ASP or ASP.Net; a couple extra dollars will buy you ColdFusion), so you can’t run WordPress on a Windows server at GoDaddy (unless, of course, it’s a dedicated server, which you can configure to your liking).
