• I have two sites using the Illustratr theme. The new site is on WordPress 5.4 and the previous site is still on version 4. When I create a post and choose the gallery format, I would like the gallery that I create at the top of the post to show up above the title, in the same place as a featured image would normally be placed. This is working in my previous site at ouradventurephotos.com and you can see several posts on the first page as an example.

On my new site, if I choose the gallery format and place a gallery at the top of my post, it merely displays under the post title and does not show up at all on the main blog page. The site I am working on is http://thoughtsonwatches.com and you’ll see that on this post, the gallery does not display as it does on my previous site; http://thoughtsonwatches.com/buying-my-first-mechanical-watch/

Any help would be much appreciated!

  • Hi there,

This appears to be an issue with the block editor – the Jetpack Tiled Gallery block in the block editor introduced in WordPress 5.0 uses different markup to create the gallery than the Jetpack tiled gallery in the classic editor, and the theme is not recognising this new markup.

I’ve reported this to our developers, but Illustratr is a fairly old theme, so I cannot guarantee this will be a priority to fix.

In the meantime you can use the Classic Block, and add the gallery inside that block instead for your gallery posts.

@kokkieh Thank you for your reply! I have the same issue with the Classic Block as well though. If I place a gallery using the classic gallery block (non-Jetpack), at the top of the post, it is not recognized and moved above the title on the page.

I’m not referring to the core gallery block, but to the classic block, that is, the block that simulates the classic editor within the block editor. Type /classic in the editor to add that block. Then you’ll click the Add Media icon in that block’s toolbar, which will give you the old pre-blocks interface to create a gallery.

Thank you! That will work as a workaround for now. I do hope that this gets updated though so that I don’t have to go through the effort of switching themes as I still really like Illustratr’s style.
