# Gallery Image Replacement

 * I have created a gallery and would like to replace an existing image with a new
   one.
 * If I upload it using the gallery image upload, I just add the new image and cannot
   replace the existing image because if I change the image link of the existing
   image it doesn’t seem to save the amendment. Not only that, when I delete the
   new image that has been added to the gallery, it deletes the source file as well
   as the image in the gallery.
 * I’m sure that there is a simple way of doing this so if someone could enlighten
   me, it would be much appreciated.
 * Does anyone have any ideas?

 * Upload the new image via Add Media whilst editing the Post and then delete the
   unwanted image.

 * Thanks for the suggestion. The reason why I asked to replace the existing image
   instead of deleting and uploading a new one would be because I would like to 
   preserve the current gallery image order and also keep the caption informaton.

 * There is no image replacement functionality in the WordPress core gallery. You
   will have to carry out the replacement manually using the steps I suggested above.
