Support » Plugin: WordPress Gallery Plugin - NextGEN Gallery » Gallery Breaks with Image Files Stored on S3

  • I have several galleries using the ImageBrowser to display, but no images are being displayed since the image files in wp-content/gallery/ were moved to S3.

Everything is supposed to work seamlessly with the way WPEngine has implemented the S3 integration with the exception of code directly accessing the file system. Is there a way to turn off NextGEN checking the file system before loading an image URL? As you can see with the linked page, the src attribute of the img tag is blank even though the admin area of NextGEN displays the images.

WPEngine allows images to be stored in the directory on the file system for 10 days; after which they are “archived” to S3, so it needs to work with both storage types.

Thanks in advance for any help!

@keeker – NextGEN Gallery currently requires the images it is serving to be within the same filesystem as the plugin itself. Although we are looking at external storage options/feature sets we do not have any currently available.

    Thanks!

@imagely – Okay. Some guidance on a line or section to comment out in the code to prevent verification against the file system would be great, though. The gallery seems to have the information it needs to render the image (they show up in the admin area); it’s just refusing to display in the front-end because it can’t find it on the file system.

@keeker – There is no single line or section that could be refactored to allow for the feature set you are looking at … and we do not recommend modifying the core plugin code as it is not update safe going forward.

We do have external storage on our idea board although as we see it as a potentially very large refactor it has not been allocated to a release cycle yet.

    Thanks!
