Hi @antipole,
Sorry I haven’t gotten to this. Since this plugin uses a separate column to display plugin notes and already has many users who are fine with that, I’d have to make it an option whether to display them in the separate column or below the description. I was initially trying to keep things simple and avoid having various options. However, I appreciate your persistence, and I’m sure you aren’t the only one with this request.
For the time being, would it be acceptable if I provided a version of the plugin that displays notes beneath the plugin description as a separate branch on GitHub? Then I would eventually build it into the main plugin as a separate option?
Let me know if that would help you.
Thanks,
Jamie
Thanks for your response and the prospect of action.
I see you presently do not have any options settings, so creating an option will involve work. Yes, a branch would be a good interim step. But, to avoid a separate branch, perhaps a software switch at the start of the code might be better? I would be happy to edit a switch. Then the update mechanism would still work as usual.
Really looking forward to being able to use Plugin Notes Plus!
Just letting you know that I’m planning to work on this this weekend. Based on your suggestion, I’m thinking it might be best to have a filter that will move the notes under the description. That way, you can put the code in your theme’s functions.php file or in a custom plugin, and then you won’t have to make any changes with subsequent updates of Plugin Notes Plus.
Good idea and great news!
I came to the support forum specifically to request this. I loved the old Plugin Notes plugin, but I agree with @antipole that it is not best to continue using that outdated plugin.
I was thrilled to see a new plugin notes plugin, but I don’t care to use it currently due primarily to the styling. Currently, it doubles the length of my Plugins page, and I’ve only added a single note. Moving notes more inline with the description as it is in the other plugin would be much less obtrusive. Also, I would appreciate seeing much less of the plugin until it is needed — remove the note author and date (many of us are a 1-person operation; maybe add a tooltip that lists this info instead), and change the “edit” and “delete” to simple non-fancy icons — a pencil and a trash can.
I like this plugin and where it’s going, as well as the author’s responsiveness. I would be very interested in trying a beta version.
I just released a new version (1.2.4) that allows you to move plugin notes beneath the description. See the first item in the FAQ for a snippet that you can use to enable that option.
I realize that there are additional requests for hiding portions of the plugin note (like the author/date). I can look into that as time permits, as I’m currently dealing with a job, family, pandemic, etc. Thanks for your understanding 🙂
Installed, snippet added. It works flawlessly, is unobtrusive when I don’t need it, and available & neat when I do. The repositioning hook made a world of difference.
Thank you for the wonderful plugin and your responsiveness.
Excellent! I’m glad it’s working for you.
Works great for me too! Now I can start converting my many dozen notes from Plugin Notes to Plugin Notes Plus.
Thank you so much for responding to this.
You’re very welcome, @antipole!
