Hello, right now we have a situation where /wp-admin/ gives me a 500 error. If I disable functions.php in the Themes file (by renaming it) then the Admin panel works fine-but the site pages do not display correctly. I tried loading an old functions.php file and it does not help; we also checked the functions.php and it appears error free. It is possible that we accidentally erased some files. Otherwise I do not know why this is happening. Can anyone help? Thanks in advance.

  • What theme are you using? Where did you download it from?

Thanks @esmi, it is a custom theme based on Twenty Eleven. But a designer built it for us. It was working fine until yesterday.

Then you may need to go back to the designer for a fresh copy of the theme.

Not the answer I am looking for, thanks. The designer made the change to functions.php so the answer lies elsewhere.

Can you think of another possibility? Or can someone else help?

Seriously? What did you expect? You erased some files in a custom theme. Do you honestly expect us to be able to pull a copy of that same custom theme out of a hat?

Either get a fresh copy of your custom theme or use another theme.

Hey @esma, I appreciate your response. Please don’t take it the wrong way. I’ll check backups to see if files are missing. Thanks again.

@esma, the problem was indeed a file that was inadvertently deleted. After restoring it all things are go. Thanks, Dave
