function.require-once error missing tags, categories, links

  • Hi there,

I just noticed some errors on my wordpress blog: links, tags, and categories vanished. However, when writing a new post, if I click on ‘Most Used Categories’, the categories show up. Also, when I tried to add new categories, it tells me that a category with the same name already exists.

After digging through the forums I found out that in some cases it seems that the missing items come back after some time- but before I read that I read another ‘solution’ which was to reinstall WP. I then entered cpanel and replaced all the .php files (leaving out the three folders- admin, content, includes), except for wp-config.php.

Now when I try to go to my blog I get this result:

Warning: require_once(/home/pmrengli/public_html/aprilius20.com/wp-settings.php) [function.require-once]: failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /home/pmrengli/public_html/aprilius20.com/wp-config.php on line 76

I get the same result when trying to go to the WP login page. The worst thing is, I haven’t done a backup of my posts- is there any way to fix this problem and retain my posts?

Thanks, I’d really appreciate any help whatsoever.
