Support » Plugin: Asset CleanUp: Page Speed Booster » Fully Removing After Deactivation?

    Hi guys,

Sorry to say I found this plugin hugely detrimental to my website’s loading speed, and it runs twice as fast with just WP Rocket installed – and according to the video posted inside the plugin, it’s all about the scores, not the letters.

Anyway, after deactivating and deleting it, there still seems to be a bit of a slow-down.

Does deactivating and deleting remove all the files from the database, or do I need to wipe the database manually?

Sorry to say I found this plugin hugely detrimental to my website’s loading speed, and it runs twice as fast with just WP Rocket installed – and according to the video posted inside the plugin, it’s all about the scores, not the letters.

Thank you for your feedback even though it’s not a positive one. This type of comment was mentioned several times and it has been proven the plugin is not the faulty one as it’s not meant to slow things down. After all, its reviews speak for themselves. My suspicion is that a combination of plugins you’re using is contributing to this slowness and the plugin is meant to work in combination with WP Rocket for maximum results. First, you unload unneeded assets with Asset CleanUp, then you use the power of WP Rocket to minify/combine (the same options are available in Asset CleanUp as well) the remaining loaded files so in the end, you will get a much faster page load.

Anyway, after deactivating and deleting it, there still seems to be a bit of a slow-down.

That suggests what I just mentioned that the cause of the slowness is somewhere else and if Asset CleanUp is deactivated, there’s no way it would have any effect on the page load. To understand what happens once you deactivate it, please check this post: https://assetcleanup.com/docs/what-happens-once-i-deactivate-the-plugin-are-the-settings-preserved/ – Consider doing a “Reset” for everything in “Tools” (plugin’s menu) if you want to clean the database from all the rules/settings (they are inactive records anyway if you later deactivate the plugin).

I hope it helps and let me know if I can further assist you at your earliest convenience!

    Super, that got the bugger!

Back down to a 1.6sec pageload time now (from 3.9sec).

    Thanks for the help!

Just a quick update on this:

After screaming and shouting at a few plugin developers, I got my webhost involved, and they pointed out that it was actually the WP Rocket lazyload system that is at fault and advised disabling it.

WP Rocket are a little reluctant to admit that anything is wrong at their end, but a working website without lazyload cannot lie, can it?

Apologies to all concerned with the development of this plugin, and I might be back for another run.

@steveraven thanks for the update! I’m glad you found the issue. Perhaps there’s an incompatibility between WP Rocket’s lazyloading and something that’s on your server (e.g. a plugin, a code from the theme, etc.).

I’ve been using WP Rocket and lazyload without any issues so far and it’s one of the plugins that I’d recommend because I’ve had a good experience with it and their customer support. However, some websites/hosting platforms are just not compatible with it.

Have you just used their free plugin or the WP Rocket premium caching plugin which has the feature already integrated?

PS: Yes, I hope you will give Asset CleanUp another try someday. I’ll be happy to assist you if you run into any issues with it.

I wasn’t aware that there was a free version of WP Rocket? But yes, I use the premium version with lazyload integrated.

I’ve had issues with the lazyload system before, but my webhost were astounding at working out what the problem was – within 2mins of them going on – so in fact that should have really been the first thing I thought of.

Looking forward to giving this one another go, as the support here seems fantastic!

@steveraven I was referring to this plugin: https://en-gb.wordpress.org/plugins/rocket-lazy-load/

What was actually the problem with lazy loading that made the website so slow? As a WP Rocket user, I’m interested in knowing more about it.

Not sure, and you won’t get any explanation from WP Rocket, but here’s a brief rundown of what happened in the last week. In all scenarios, WP Rocket lazyload is enabled unless stated otherwise:

    1) Had problems with my website pre-loader and reached out to LoftLoader to see if they could repair the ‘only load once’ scenario. Fantastic support, but then I noticed that my sticky menu had stopped working and one of my posts had disappeared.

More fiddling about, clearing cache files, and disabling Cloudflare led them to believe that Cloudflare might be the culprit. By now, everything was running perfectly.

    2) One day later, I noticed problems on the sticky menu again, plus my image menu for a few blog categories had stopped working and only showed a text menu. This was after I’d just enabled Asset Cleanup, so you can probably see why I wasn’t your greatest fan, and I asked how to disable completely.

Asked LoftLoader which files were removed last time, so that I could do it from my end, rather than having to keep bothering them.

    3) Same night, contacted my webhost, who went onto the website and worked out it was the WP Rocket lazyload system, saying ‘it looks a bit buggy’. This got disabled and everything went straight back to normal.

LoftLoader were also informed of this.

    4) Contacted WP Rocket to request a fix for the lazyload system, which they managed for the sticky menu, but no effect on the blog image menu, so lazyload was again disabled.

That’s as far as its got so far, and I’m waiting to see what WP Rocket come up with now.
