Hi, I am in the middle of working on a blog for a friend. I've almost finished the design, then I'll be creating a child theme of 'twenty twelve' (to ensure updates work OK, etc).

I'm having trouble on the header though. Eventually, we want to have a transparent header so that the background is displayed - we will then have the menu buttons & blog logo/title 'on top' of the background.

The first thing I need to do is make the header image span the width of the page (otherwise it wouldn't look good having white space in the header...

I've managed to resize the existing image as a test & get rid of the padding both top and right. However, I cannot for the life of me find a way to eliminate the 30-40px padding on the left of the header image.

I've tried removing the 40px padding for the page and adding new padding to the content & menu but it messes up my layout.

Please could someone have a look as I need to get the design finished in the next few days.

The live blog is at http://www.gwensbridalbazaar.com.

I look forward to your thoughts, all comments are appreciated.

You should make a child theme before doing any work on the theme -- it's a lot more work to do it later. See this thread on why:

I'll create a child theme this week, I've made most of the changes I need so once this final change has been put in - I'll create a child theme so that my customisation is protected against theme upgrades.

In the meantime, do you know how I can remove the padding mentioned in the question?

    Many thanks!

If the CSS change is within a Child Theme, then your query is slightly related to WordPress. Otherwise, it's just a plain CSS issue and can be asked in a CSS forum such as http://CSSCreator.com/forum .

I've sussed it out now thanks to FireBug & BlueGriffon
