    Hello,

I’ve been a happy user of the standard UpdraftPlus plugin for about a year now. And it has saved me several times when plugin updates created problems on my site. But I’ve just learned that in case of a hack, having a backup within my hosting account isn’t much help. Apparently, we should always have a full-site backup to a remote location.

Can someone explain exactly which folder/files I need to copy elsewhere after preforming a backup? I have access to all my files via the file manager in my cPanel. I just don’t know where to look.

    Thanks!
    C.

    Hi,

You can find the backup files in the ‘wp-content/updraft’ directory. Each backup is split into multiple files that share similar file names.

You can also download the backup files through the UpdraftPlus Existing Backups tab, by clicking on the sections of the backup.

We recommend setting up a remote storage location in the Settings tab. UpdraftPlus will then store the backups in the remote storage location, rather than on the web server.

Thank you for your reply. 🙂

I was able to easily download to my hard drive the ‘wp-content/updraft’ directory. In the advent I needed to perform a reinstall, would it be as simple as uploading the content of this directory in it’s place and then simply performing a restaure from the UpdraftPlus Existing Backups tab?

The remote location storage obviously sounds good, but I don’t have enough storage space on my Google Drive and I’m looking, ideally, for a free solution…

    Thanks,
    C.

    Hi,

Yes, if you need to restore, upload the backup files to the ‘wp-content/updraft’ directory again. This can be done via FTP, or through the UpdraftPlus Existing Backups tab.

After uploading the backup, click the ‘Re-scan local storage’ link in the Existing Backups tab. The backup should appear ready to be restored.

Thank you for that clarification! 🙂

I am closing this ticket now.
