I have four sites that on on shared hosting under one account. I was noticing that every saturday at around 10 pm, I was getting a notice that my sites were down. If I looked at cPanel, I saw that CPU, Memory, IO processes etc were maxxed out.

I just found that one of my sites has a full backup scheduled for 22:00 (10 pm). I went to run that manually and found that my resources maxed out.

My question is: Is there any way to throttle Backupwordpress so it doesn’t consume as many resources, I don’t care if it runs longer, I just don’t want to hammer my server.

    thanks

    chris

  • I came hear with the same question. Nobody has thoughts on this? It crushes my server and brings down my site for 6 minutes every Saturday morning at 3am when I have it scheduled.

    Hey there –

Unfortunately running a backup, via plugin or even on the command line, is a memory-intensive process and will use CPU and server resources every time they’re run.

We recommend staggering your backups so that they aren’t all running at the same time and/or breaking up larger backups into smaller, multiple schedules so that your server isn’t maxed out.

You can also talk with your host to see about increasing server resources, memory, CPU, or I/o (on some hosts).

    Best of luck!
    Kat
