full background on twenty thirteen theme

Here’s what I’m trying to do. I have my site exactly as I want it with my header and footer removed using the twenty thirteen theme. I’m trying to us a custom background I have designed in the background however no matter where I look online I cannot seem to find the correct answer to do this.

I have this hosted locally.

Is there somewhere in the style sheet I can change this?

This doesn’t help me at all. I just went over my entire code and in order to switch it to the correct code I need to locate #main {
of which is nowhere in my code

You would add the code mentioned in that forum post to your style.css.

Forgive me for I’m not sure where to locate it within my style code I
looked through it and I don’t see anywhere where I can replace with
the code they are suggesting.

And BTW, do NOT modify theme files directly – any changes will be lost when WP is updated. – CSS should be added to a custom CSS plugin or a child theme.

Also I’m a beginner. I offered to do this site for a friend as a favor
and am teaching myself as I go along. I have no idea how to do a child
theme. I’m using the twenty thirteen theme. Any help is appreciated I
was supposed to have this site done on Thursday.

If you are modifying theme files, that’s really going to create a big mess when WP gets updated- you will lose all your changes. Believe me, you don’t want to go there :)!

Child themes are not hard to make – read the link posted above.

Oh doh, I didn’t realize that the forum thread I originally mentioned did a poor job of explaining it how to do it correctly, yes, you would created a child theme. Thanks WPYogi!

Okay…… this isn’t solving the reason I posted this. I already have all of child Stylesheet header in my code I just didn’t post it for privacy reasons. All I need to do is have a background image to be full screen in the background of my page rather than it being white.

On a un-modified version of Twenty Thirteen, ADDING this CSS should set a background image:

    background-image: url("PUT IMAGE URL IN HERE");
}
```
