 * I can ftp files to cpanel and see them there. WP can’t find them to point at
   on a web page. I can’t see the files (or the locations) on WP admin — only media
   library. I change the locations in the html to the cpanel directory and I get
   a ..can’t find it.
 * I need to ftp to WP so I can point to it in the web page (static) to open the
   file.
 * Thanks

 * Hey there sbj04769,
 * Hope you’re well! 🙂
 * If the files you are uploading is not inside the WP folder then WordPress will
   not be able to see that.
 * Does that answer your question? Looking forward for your reply! 🙂
 * Take care,
    Calvin

 * OK
    How do I ftp to the WP folder?
 * I have tried lots of variations to the point my cpanel has lots of subdirectories(
   and I can’t seem to remove them) but the WP webpage can’t find them.

 * Hey there sbj04769,

 * > How do I ftp to the WP folder?
 * Locate your WP folder using your file manager or using an ftp client software.
   You will notice if the current folder you are viewing is a wordpress folder if
   you see these files: [http://prntscr.com/62vnsh](http://prntscr.com/62vnsh)
 * Then put the files you want to that exact location. Let’s say you want to put**
   1.jpg** as static file then you should go like this:
 * Create a new folder then name it everything you want ( just make sure this is
   unique name meaning not having same name with the folders / files that are already
   existing there ) [http://prntscr.com/62vo0g](http://prntscr.com/62vo0g) – for
   this I named it ‘static_files’
 * **Note:** The name of the folder you will put static files is also included in
   url.
 * Put the files you want inside that ‘static_files’ folder. The way you can access
   it is like this:
 * **[http://yourdomain.com/static_files/1.jpg](http://yourdomain.com/static_files/1.jpg)**
 * Hope I am making sense here.
 * Take care,
    Calvin

    But here is where I am today. I did that I can see and upload files
   to the static_files directory. However, I can’t point to it (in WordPress) and
   access it from the webpage. (OK, I can point to it but I get a file not found)
   In fact, I have totally deleted a file from, cpanel so I know it is not using
   it. WordPress seems to only be able to use files located in its Media Library.
   I can’t /don’t know how to FTP to the media library so still can’t access current
   files from WordPress.
 * In a nutshell: I want to automatically FTP current weather data files to my WordPress-
   run web page; have these new files overwrite the files of the identical name
   so when clicking on a link, the most recent weather is viewed. I have done this
   in the past (not with WordPress) and I never had a problem. I hope I am explaining
   myself clearly.

 * would WordPress.com or WordPress.org be better for my needs?
    As I did not install
   it (done by the help line) how do I know which I have?

 * Hey there sbj04769,
 * Hope you’re well! 🙂
 * There are two types of wordpress which you can read here: [http://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/](http://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/).
   All I can say is the .org or self-host wordpress gives you a lot of flexibility
   cause you are own your own.
 * I am referring to .org type of WordPress for my fixes. So I suggest you reach
   the awesome folks at wordpress.com ( since you got your site there ) on their
   forum here: [http://en.forums.wordpress.com/](http://en.forums.wordpress.com/)
 * Let me know if it helps! 🙂
 * Take care,
    Calvin
