FTP Error: Listing directory failed message on upgrade

  • I have been trying to upload wordpress upgrade via ftp, but continually get the error message

    FTP Error: Listing directory failed

Can’t change directory to …….. No such file or directory

There are no duplicates so unsure why this is happening.

    I am upgrading from 3 to 3.0.1

does anyone know what is going wrong?

  • I’d contact your web host. Something sounds really wrong with your ISP.

    Hi Overlander:

I found on some of my sites that I was unable to overwrite all of the directories and files at one time.

Try doing 1 directory at a time. Make sure you follow the “manual upgrade” directions for files/directories that need to be overwritten and those that MUST NOT be over written.

I think I tried the wp-includes directory 1st. By breaking up the upload, my upgrade went fine

Ops! Re=read your post – you’re not even getting into your directory listing. Check settings in your FTP program.

Can you still see your site when you use a browser? If you can, then your files are some where on your server. Can you access your host account by your ISP’s cpanel?
