# FTP Access

 * Hi.
    I’m currently constructing my site but cannot reach my server from my admin
   panel. I can’t install plugins (I have to FTP them manually to the plugin folder),
   now I’m being told that my version of WordPress needs updating but because of
   this inability to reach my server I can’t do it. I have no trouble creating pages
   and uploading the media files for them, but for things like plugins and themes
   I have to manually FTP them. I am putting the correct info into the ‘connection
   information; fields but all I get is the red box at the top stating ‘Error: There
   was an error connecting to the server, Please verify the settings are correct.’
   Any advice gratefully received and thanks in advance. Jack.

 * The connection details that I’m entering are the same as the details I use to
   manually FTP plugins etc so I know they are correct because they work in my FTP
   client.

 * Perhaps your hosts are blocking the FTP connection via WP? Have you asked them
   about it?
