Support » Installing WordPress » FTP access to WP install using bluehost

  • Alright guys, I am really sorry if I am doing something incredibly stupid but I am trying to get my first wordpress site up and running. Here is my issue, I used the bluehost auto install for WP, so it from what I can see installed it in mydomainname _wrd1 . Problem is I cant figure out how to get FTP access to this. If I use the FTP account settings in cpanel it wont seem to let me have access to the root of my content just to some subfolder it made. I guess I really dont need to have FTP access to this since I can install most things by uploading them directly but I would still like to know what I am doing wrong. thanks!

  • Blue Host has CPanel access where you can create FTP logins – – be sure when you create an FTP user account that you are designating folder permissions as /public_html/ … not /public_html/usernmame/

If that still doesn’t work for you, I would recommend eliciting the help of the support techs at Blue Host.

    Cheers,

yes Lisa is right, you need to create an ftp user name with access to /public_html/

by default when you add an ftp user name a sub folder is created for that user.
