    Hi there,

I’m using Download Manager with Email Before Download and Contact Form 7.

I’m not a professional web designer and am not overly familiar with FTP but believe it would make life easier in the long run if i used it in conjunction with this plug in (as product specs are constantly evolving and it would safe relinking).

I’m just wondering if I am able to use FTP with this plug in and if anybody could give me some tips on how?

    Would be greatly appreciated
    Thanks
    Lauren

I don’t know what you are asking here 🙂

if you are asking if you can use FTP to upload files, yes of course. Just add the path/URL to a new download.

I thought as much, yes for the files that will become downloads.

Do you know somewhere where I can find a material that will explain it step by step? I have looked around online and on youtube ect but can’t seem to find anything.

I really don’t know FTP (I normally just make marketing materials) but have been told that I need to use it. I just don’t want to make any guesses incase i break something!

I think it depends on the client you use.

If you are a windows user there are loads if you have a google. I used to use smartFTP http://www.smartftp.com/

If you’re on a mac, Transmit is great and easy to use.

    Good luck!

I have filezilla and komodo edit. To try and use it with your plug in I created a new directory under Download Monitor and put in the files that I want to become downloads in there. I then came onto wordpress and manually uploaded the url of the file within the new directory i.e
    “ftp://example.com@ftp.example.com/public_html/wp-content/plugins/download-monitor/Datasheets/Targa%2037%20Boat%20Trailer.pdf”

It came up with “You do not have the permission to view this file” can you tell me what I did wrong?

    Depends what url you entered?

Don’t put them there though – they will be lost during updates. Put your files in wp-uploads somewhere.
