So we have updated from 2.9 to 3.0 Beta and the interface is way better with the bootstrap CSS.

However. I don’t see where the “Exclude” option is when hiding the frontend posts or post categories from a user.

This is the main feature we got the pro plus version for as we don’t just want them from not accessing certain posts but to not see them in the loop at all and make sure they are filtered out.

  • Hi Jamin,

Exclude option based on our latest brainstorming is redundant so it is deprecated and removed from the AAM 3.x version.

    Please use List option instead.
Let me know if you have any other questions.

    Thanks for the reply.

We have used the List but on the front end, if we hide a category, the link to the category is still there (for example it still shows in the Categories Widget). Exclude in 2.9 allowed it to be completely hidden.

    Hi Jamin,

I’ve just tried to exclude Post Category that I added to the Primary Menu in Twenty Fifteen theme and did not find any issues.

Please send me a screenshot of your Posts & Pages for category that you are not able to exclude.

    Thank you for the reply.

We have tested this ourselves and you are correct it does get filtered from the primary menu.

Exclude in 2.9 allowed the categories to be filtered from the categories widget, and from our get_categories() foreach loop as well as this.

We tested this on a fresh install of WordPress and we saw the category filtered from the menu but it does not filter from the widget or our loop.

We only noticed this as we had this working before we updated. Would it be possible to look into this?

    Hi Jamin,

You are right about it. That was a really good catch! Appreciate it.
The new version of AAM Plus Package is available. You’ll get notified within 24 hours about available update

When AAM is activated, there is a daily job that check for extension updates, but you can force to run it immediately if you remove the cron option from the wp_options table.

    Thank you for your feedback.

Thanks for the help, and happy to help! Great plugin overall as it is one of the only plugins that filter content at the individual user level. Keep up the good work!

This may be a related question. Sorry if it’s a dumb one. But how do I exclude all posts of a certain category (for a certain user type) even if they are also simultaneously members of another (non-excluded) category? In other words, a post that is members of 2 or more categories (all parents) needs to be excluded for a certain user type on the basis of its membership in only *one* of its categories. Is that possible? Am having trouble finding a support thread on this…

    Hi Alpha Male,

It is a quite complicated case. AAM takes in consideration only the first category and ignore others.

There are so many different scenarios and WordPress implementation regarding post querying is quite complicated. That is why we try to keep it simply and on the basic level.

Thank you for asking the question. We might brainstorm about it and maybe will come-up with some sort of solution for your situation.

    Andrew,

    Will do!
