Support » Theme: Relative » Front Page Post Slider – Too Narrow

  • Resolved wpwd2016

    As I move to set this theme up using the “Relative” theme, I find that the front page post slider, which is the header image slider, is too narrow, the width remains fixed at: 1050px.

    No matter what settings I use in the Customizer for the theme width, the header slider remains at 1050px, the 3 icon boxes below remain fixed at 1200px.

    This layout, therefore, shows a misalignment of the top image post slider to the icon boxes below.

    There are no other settings.

    I think I know what the problem might be…. although it’s odd on the demo site and my local dev site, I get the right width. Let me look into this a bit more and I will follow up shortly.

    By the way, I see a .ca domain and Vernon, BC, so, greetings from Vancouver 🙂

    UPDATE: How comfortable are you with making a theme edit to a theme file? I was going to get you to try something.

    The edit I was going to have you do is this…. go to Appearance >> Theme Editor >> then click to enter /inc/template-functions.php

    Look for line 161

    echo '<div class="container"><div class="row"><div class="flexslider"><div class="col-lg-12">';

    The correction I need to make for an update is to make this line as:

    echo '<div class="container"><div class="row"><div class="col-lg-12"><div class="flexslider">';

    I had the flexslider div in the wrong place….probably due to lack of sleep. I tried this in the browser when I was at your site and it appeared to be the issue and solution.

    By the way, I see you’re loading FontAwesome version 4, so you will want to make your icon boxes with version 4 icon code. Example, you have fab fa-apple in the first one, but this will work for Font Awesome v5, but not 4, which this theme uses (the pro version has both v4 and v5).

    So you will need to use fa fa-apple as the icon code.

    Wow, I step away from the computer for a night-dinner break and voila, you appear! – and in BC to boot! Yes, I am in Vernon, the sunny Okanagan.

    Yes, build my own sites, CSS/HTML/PHP, etc.

    I did the correction, switched around the DIV, col-lg-12 with flexslider and Yes, that corrected the issue ~ Thanks 🙂

    Thanks for the fontawesome link, it was not there in the documentation, where it says, “visit the font awesome website link above”, there is no link found, at least not easily seen on the page.

    You are very welcome 🙂
    ….and I should get you to send me some fresh Okanagan fruits off the trees!

    Anyway, glad the info helped. I will upload the fix to the theme slider shortly so others can take advantage of it. I had to check the pro version too but there I had the code correct; not sure how I missed it on the free one though.

    As for the font awesome link and details not in the documentation, I’m about to add that to the tutorial in a few minutes. Thanks for pointing that missing detail.

    Cheers!
    Andre

    I am supposing you are one of the theme authors. Nice to see someone more local than having to speak with someone from the middle east. Could I ask some business related questions, privately? – can I use the contact link on your main website?

    Thanks 🙂

    PS: the sad thing about the okanagan, we used to get a lot of fresh local fruit, was really nice, but they wanted to make more money so a lot of them switched out for wine grapes instead. 🙁

    It’s just me running the whole show….developer, designer, customer service, support, accounting 🙂

    You are welcome to contact me if you wish as the forum mods like to keep things strictly about the free themes here.
