• [ Moved to the Fixing WordPress sub-forum and title decapped. Don’t yell. ]

I have inherited a site and am trying to fix a problem for them. As weird as this sounds, I have defined the home page in wordpress and defined that page to use a particular template. Yet the home page refuses to display some of the widgets call in the template. Using the same template, I defined another page as a test, and the widgets are all properly displayed. It is only when I take the exact same page and assign it to be the front page, the widget disappears!!

As an experiment, I cleared the cache and then completely deleted the template from the server, thinking now it should display some kind of default page, since the template file is missing ….and yet the page continued to display as before, without all the widgets.

Been two days looking for this and am going a bit crazy. Is there someplace in the database that I can see what home page file is being used and which template. Something is not matching.

    Suggestions…need help!!!!

    …some more detail here>

This is all about the frontpage/home page. I am thinking that home page reference in the database must be wrong and want to know where to look.

Since changing the template of the “defined” home page changes absolutely nothing, I have concluded that either:

    1. It is not using the defined home page
    or
    2. It is not using the defined template associated with the home page.

    REALLY NEED HELP…AT KNOWLEDGE END.

Does your theme have a front-page.php or home.php file? Those would define the front page contents.

Install the plugin “show current template” to help track this down.

Yes, it has both. Let me try that plugin you mentioned.

Ok, tried that…and crashed the site. My bad, did not read. The theme does not have a tool bar and the plugin requires it. Any other suggestions?

    Sorry —

Your theme disables the admin toolbar? Bad!

Yes, but I have re-enabled that now. Like I said, I inherited this and am slowly fixing things.

Is that page you mentioned. front-page.php. Is that exclusively for the front page. No chance it will be used on other pages?

front-page.php is used only for the front page.
