Front page downloading instead of displaying

    I have multiple websites running WordPress. The ones I have that are still on 4.1.12 display fine on my host, using PHP 4.6. The sites using 4.5.3 and PHP 4.6 only try and download the front page when using Chrome, Firefox or IE11. Firefox seems to be detecting the main page as application/x-trash.

    I tried switching those problem hosts to both PHP 5.2 and 5.5 but neither has made a difference.

    I checked for a .htaccess which may have been a cause of the wrong type but there are none on any of my sites, even the ones working correctly.

    I’m stuck at this time. Any ideas would be appreciated.

    Figured it out.

    I had old files in the broken hosts named index.htm.old or index.php.old. Deleted any of those and blam, everything is working okay again.

    Can’t really say why those caused the problem, but hopefully this helps someone who runs into the same issues.
