Front end viewing

Hi, I am trying the free version prior to getting the Pro version and I am having trouble getting it to display properly on the front end, the plugin is being used for a staff portal and the members of staff do not have access to the CP, it does work on the twenty fourteen theme but that is no use to me.
are there any extra display controls in the Pro version?
what other option can you suggest?
